Athlete, Recognize the Preeminent One

Colossians 3:1-4
"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.  For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."

Athlete, remember that Christ is preeminent (Col 1:15-23) and this is played out in these verses. Christ has been raised, Christ is at the right hand of God (most prominent and important position), and Christ will appear again. He has supreme authority. He is the biggest deal.

Because Christ is preeminent we are called to live a different way. We are called to:
  • seek the things that are above
  • to set our minds on things above, not things on earth
  • to be reminded that we have died to the old self
  • we are to live with Christ
  • and live in such a way that we know we will be raised again with Jesus in glory

Those are some pretty awesome things but unbelievably hard to do. How do we do all of those, or how about just one of those?

It starts with a recognition that we can not do them on our own. That WE can not do it. We need the most powerful, important, and glorious being ever to help us. So the challenge today is to turn to Jesus for your help.

  • When you start to seek the things of this world; pray that you would recognize and ask Jesus for help.
  • When you are living for yourself; pray that you would recognize and ask Jesus to change you.
  • When you want to live the old way: pray you would recognize and ask Jesus to remind you of the truth of he has made you new, to live a new way.
