Athlete, You Have Eternal Life

"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life." 1 John 5:13

Does it matter how I live today?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? Each day I wake up, I have choices to make. I would hate to wake up tomorrow and wish I would have done something different today. Therefore, I try to think about how my choices today will impact more than just today.

There is so much pressure on living in the moment, whether in sport or life, that we don't often think about tomorrow, let alone eternity.  Most days it is very easy to think about how the moment will impact you.  Does it bring me pleasure?  Am I getting glory?  Are people recognizing me?  Me, me, me. However, life is not all about you.  It's about what God wants to do in and through you.

When you are in Christ, you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 says, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life." You will forever be with Jesus, but what about your teammates? Will they be in eternity with you?  Your teammates are probably the people you spend the most time with.  Therefore, what kind of impact are you making in their lives?

Because I have eternal life and that is what matters most, I should want to invest in the spiritual lives of people. That includes my teammates and coaches.   So let's not live just for today.  Let's live for something that goes beyond today and bigger than our sport and that is bigger than us.
