Colossians 3:12-16

"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God."

Take a moment to read these verses again because they are packed with practical applications for life and sport. This commentary from the Life Application Study Bible is helpful for this section.

"Paul offers a strategy to help us live for God day by day:

  • Imitate Christ’s compassionate, forgiving attitude (3:12,13)
  • Let love guide your life (3:14)
  • Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts (3:15)
  • Always be thankful (3:15)
  • Keep God’s Word in you at all times (3:16)

Today's devotional is very practical but will take some time by you to put it into your context so I want to just throw eight questions at you. Your job is to do the work and figure out how it applies to your life and sport.

  1. In what areas of my life am I not living as God’s chosen one who is holy and beloved?
  2. How do I imitate Christ’s compassionate heart on my team? In my athletic department?
  3. Who do you need to reach out to today to forgive?
  4. What is one way you can show love today to your coach, teammate(s), or administration, even though they might not deserve it?
  5. What prideful attitude do you need to swallow in order for there to be peace?
  6. Who should you tell today you are thankful for them?
  7. What teammate could you start a conversation with about God? Maybe use the Ao1Life App or what you are learning through these devos and the chapel to start the conversation.
  8. Is there a verse from this week that you would like to memorize so that God’s Word is with you at all times?

Ask God to show you how to practically live this out today and give you the courage to follow through with it and be faithful.
