Athlete, Examine Yourself

2 Corinthians 13:5 says "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless indeed you fail to meet the test!"

One of my favorite comedians is a guy named Jon Crist, and one of his famous tag lines is a phrase he uses after people do controversial things.  The tag line is "check your heart." My friends and I love to use this line to joke around  with each other, but I think that it holds a lot of weight when it comes to integrity. Sometimes it's good to "check your heart" every once in a while to examine ourselves and the decisions that we are making.

Some questions that come to mind are: Do I like the Person I'm becoming?  Do I like the decisions that I'm making? Do I like the people that I'm surrounding myself with? Would I be okay with  my future son or daughter dating the type of person I am right now? In the scripture above Paul tells us that we need to examine and test  ourselves when it comes to our faith, and I think the same goes when it comes to our integrity. I think taking a deep look in the mirror and examining ourselves can give us a picture of the type of person we are at the moment.

My prayer for you this week is that you would take time to reflect and possibly journal about some of the questions mentioned above, and take some time to pray about it.

Psalms 139:23-24 says "Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life."
