Athlete, You Have His Spirit

Romans 8:12-17
"So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!" The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him."

Has the significance of being adopted into God's family been hitting you this week? Have you been able to let your mind contemplate on what that really means?

Let's go a bit deeper into the ramifications of this adoption we have. These verses tell us that because we are in Christ we have His Spirit, the Holy Spirit living in us. And this is our power source for turning away from our sinful ways. This is the power source that allows us to declare that fear and slavery to sin have no place in our lives becasue we have a spirit of adoption! Our Spirit, which upon salvation is given the Holy Spirit to live inside of us, now is the witness or the proof that we are in God's family.  We get to cry out to our God not only as Lord and Savior but as Daddy (Abba)!

Family relationships are typically the most intimate relationships one can have. Our adoption into a perfect family with a perfect Father is priceless! This identity as a child of God changes LITERALLY everything for us! We can call upon God as our Father and we can turn away from our slavery to sin all because of God's adoption of us! Let yourself take just 2 minutes right now to praise God for adopting you into His family. Set your timer on your phone for 2 minutes and let your praises be heard by your Daddy in Heaven!
