Athlete, We Are One

"Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:23-28

We are family (come on everybody and sing)! Can you hear the ever so popular wedding reception dance song in your head? But, really our adoption means our unity. This powerful implication of our salvation and adoption has yet to be fully realized. I have experienced moments of unity in the family of God in my life and I have heard about the powerful way being in God's family has brought the most unlikely of peoples together.

In our scripture today, it states clearly there is no difference that needs to divide us. All believers in Jesus are adopted into ONE family! This is a radical truth. This truth lived out turned the 1st century world on it's head!

No separation between Jew and Greek and that dividing line was strong! No difference between a free man and a slave. That doesn't make sense in our world! No hierarchy to separate male and females. Unheard of in the patriarchal roman world! All believers are ONE in Jesus through the adoption as children of God!

Really, this truth applied would alter everything from what tables we chose to sit at in the high school lunchroom, to where we worship on Sunday mornings, to the unspoken thoughts that float around in our minds about our brothers and sisters in Christ. What can you do today to show the dying, hopeless, and watching world that your faith matters? How can you move towards another believer whom the world would say you have nothing in common with?
